Félicien de Heusch
Félicien de Heusch is an ERC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen. Within SOLID, his research examines how actors such as associations, migrant families, migrant survivors, and forensic experts search for information about, and commemorate, deceased and disappeared migrants in Morocco and Spain.
De Heusch completed his PhD in Social and Political Sciences at the University of Liège (Belgium) in 2023, within the European Research Council (ERC)-funded project “Migration, Transnationalism and Social Protection in (post-)crisis Europe (MiTSoPro).” His thesis examines transnational practices and benefits of social protection, including body repatriation and survivors’ pensions, across Belgium, Spain, and Senegal. He previously completed a double MA degree in Immigration Studies at the University of Liège and Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. He was awarded a Fulbright Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Latin American Institute (LAI) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and an FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Sociology (MIGLOBA/CRESC) at the University of Antwerp. He is also a Scientific Associate at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) at the University of Liège. His publications have appeared with Routledge and in journals such as the International Journal of Qualitative Methods and the Revue Européenne des Migrations Internationales. With artist Gaspard Njock, he published the graphic novel Au-delà l’exil (2024) with Sofia Comics, which was subsequently translated into English, Spanish, and Italian. His broader research interests include transnationalism, social protection, death, street vending, and political mobilisations. He has conducted fieldwork in Argentina, the United States, Senegal, Morocco, Spain, and Belgium.
