Stella Martin de las Heras

Stella Martin de las Heras is Full Professor (MD, BDS, PhD) at the Department of Forensic Medicine, the University of Malaga, Spain. She is the Leader of the Spanish research team collaborating as a partner in the European Research Council project ‘The Social Life of Dead Bodies: A new ethnographic approach to migrant deaths in and around the Mediterranean Sea’ (SOLID), and a member of the COST Action CA22106-Migrant Disaster Victim Identification (MDVI). She has been awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard on two occasions in recognition of her contribution to the identification of victims following major disasters. Her research focuses on gender-based violence and human identification, bringing together interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches across forensic medicine, forensic dentistry, anthropology, gender violence and health sciences education. Her work particularly explores the application of forensic expertise to human identification and the investigation of violence, with a strong emphasis on collaborative approaches across forensic and health sciences.
