Ryan Switzer

Ryan Switzer is an ERC postdoctoral researcher at The University of Copenhagen’s Department of Anthropology. As a member of the ANGLE project, his postdoctoral research explores technologies’ role in shaping political emotions. His current fieldwork involves observations and interviews with conservative and right-wing grassroots groups in the southern United States.

Before joining ANGLE, Switzer was a postdoctoral researcher at Stockholm University’s Department of Child and Youth Studies with the Horizon project YOU-DARE, studying the gendered dimensions of far right youth activism in Sweden.

Switzer completed his PhD in Sociology at Stockholm University in 2024. Through an ethnographis study of the Swedish far right, he developed the concept of “affective landscapes” to explore the political potentials of emotional, racialized relationships to places. He received his MA in Political Science from the Central European University and a double BA in Political Science and International Affairs from the University of Georgia. His work has been published in Social Problems, European Societies, and Ethnic and Racial Studies, among other journals and edited volumes.
